Crabbin Cabin Salvage Day

9/30/2006 - Saturday

On 9/30/2006 several of the family showed up to salvage what we could from the Newport ,Oregon Crabbin' Cabin.  In the next couple of days the cabin will be bulldozed, and a new cabin built in it's place.  Below are some pictures from the salvage.  Not many comments yet.  You can click on any picture for an ENORMOUS version to see more detail.

PICTURES JUST BEFORE SALVAGE STARTED:

I think those are Grandpa's overalls hanging up there in the garage.  He passed away more than 10 before this picture was taken, but his spirit was always there when I walked through that back door you see open.

The living room of the cabin.

A picture from the living room back through the dining room to the kitchen and finally bathroom.

Same thing, panorama from one angle.

Front porch.

A picture of the "dining room" (nook).

Slightly different angle.

Kitchen (that's Virginia Wilson packing up stuff to salvage).

Bathroom.

Garage.

I walked around the house and took some pictures, this is from the back.

From the front at one angle.

Howard Wilson salvaging the famous "Ralph and Erma Crabbin Cabin" sign off the front of the house.

A close up of the sign.  I remember when we got this sign, but I'm not sure the year.  It was probably around 1979 (27 years ago).

The address of the Crabbin' Cabin is 932 Hurbert Street, I took this picture so I could remember.  :-)

Closer up, same picture.

PICTURES OF THE SALVAGE and AFTER SALVAGE from here on down:

One pickup truck loaded for a trip to the storage locker.

Another pickup around back of the house getting loaded.

Empty living room, with carpet torn up to look at the flooring.

Empty bedroom.

Empty cabin, Travis looking lonely by the window.

Jennifer picks up the last of the useful stuff, the cabin is gutted.

Gutted, empty cabin.

If you look closely, you can see Bruce Craig Wilson just tossed the final crab pot way onto the top of the pile in the storage locker.

The final storage locker filled with all the cabin stuff.

Bruce Alan Wilson starts cutting into the floorboards to find out if they are worth keeping.

The target on the wall is for Tyler Wilson and Travis Wilson to throw a baseball as hard as they can to try to break the wall.  They got a few dents, but no breaks.
