2025 Kendall and Kyle Wedding in San Diego

(6/14/2025  - 6/15/2025)

On Saturday, June 14th, 2025, Katherine and Brian travelled to San Diego for Kendall and Kyle's wedding.  Remember you can click on any photo below for the highest quality original version that exists.

A Tiny Bit of Background:
Kendall MacDonald got married!  Katherine and I have known Kendall since before she was born.  About 10 years ago, Kendall had an internship working for me.  We met up with Kendall (and her parents) in Hawaii a few times, like this photo.  This trip is for Katherine and Brian to attend Kendall's wedding which was at "The Lodge Torrey Pines" in San Diego.

Pictures mostly in time order.  Below we are parked in the "Blue Parking Area" at Austin Airport.  I take these photos to remember where we parked.  :-)

We originally had flights at a sane time.  Then Alaska just moved our flight 5 hours earlier.  I took this screenshot of the AlaskaAir app on my phone, which shows the time is 5:40am (upper left), boarding time is 5:20am.  We had to get "up" at 3am to make this flight.  Which made us tired, LOL.

If you fly on airplanes, they always tell you to store your bags completely under the seat in front of you.  I think the picture below is interesting because our pilots store their bags on top of the controls to the aircraft.  I'm wondering if a little turbulence might bounce the bag onto the "eject pilot" lever or something.  Oh well, that's why there is a co-pilot as backup.

Once Katherine and I arrived at The Lodge Torrey Pines at around 9am, our room wasn't available.  So we puttered around the property for the next 7 hours.  In the picture below, we ran into (from left to right): Jennifer McMenamy (wearing backpack), Kevin McMenamy, Julia (Jules) Craig, Will MacDonald, and Nick Tingle (purple shirt on right) playing croquet.  This croquet field is where the wedding ceremony was held the following day.

While waiting for our room to be available, we found some of our friends in the "bridal staging room" which is immediately next to the croquet field on ground level.  From left to right below: Katherine Chung (grey top, facing camera), Abigail Rausch (black dress facing away from camera), ??Samantha (Sam) Liebman?? on the left end of couch, Molly Wright (pink shirt), Emma Wright, Fiona MacDonald (on right end of couch), then in blue dress is Lia MacDonald (mother of the bride).

From left to right: ??unknown in red shirt leaning on wall??, Kendall MacDonald (the bride) in white top and black skirt, ??unknown?? (in black shirt), and ??unknown?? carrying golf clubs.

At 4pm our room was finally available so here is a panorama from our balcony.  Notice the wedding rehearsal setup below, on the croquet field.

A random picture of the swimming pool from the same location.

A closer zoomed in picture of the wedding venue, setup 1 day before the actual wedding for a rehearsal.

I think the picture below is kind of funny, and I have no idea what is going on.  First of all, it looks like all the bridesmaids are seated in the front row (which isn't where they will be during the wedding).  Nobody else is present, so I'm not sure how they all decided to sit there.  Over on the left of the picture is the "bridal staging room/area" where you can see some of the other members of the wedding party hanging around putting with golf clubs.  You can even see the official "ring bearer" there, which is Kyle and Kendall's dog named "Shepard".

Wedding party gathering for the wedding rehearsal, discussing strategy and logistics.

The picture below is very random, but I like it.

During the wedding rehearsal, as the bride and groom depart they stop half way down for a dramatic "wedding aisle dip kiss".

In the photo below you can see Shepard (official ring bearer dog) practicing departing after the couple is married.

The picture below is the day after all the photos above.  The picture below is the official wedding day!  June 15, 2025.  This is the view from Katherine and Brian's (me) room's balcony looking down at the wedding venue getting all setup.

Katherine got very sick, and was coughing all night long, and didn't want to disrupt the wedding with constant coughing, so Katherine watched the wedding from our room's balcony.  I went down in a Tuxedo to attend "in person".  Below I'm at ground level.  That is Van Norman in a suit facing away from the camera.

It was a beautiful day for the wedding, but in a Tuxedo (jacket) and tie I was hot, so I found the only spot with shade for one person over on the side to wait.  The panorama picture below is from my "cool spot".

I walked over to take a picture of the wedding venue from the other direction.  Katherine is up in the room at the center of the tallest peak on the building.  Our suite's "living room" includes the little "bay window" you can see slightly obscured by a tree in the photo.

From left to right: Zoe Tingle (I believe 16 years old in this photo), Nick Tingle (Zoe's father), and Wendy Riggs (Zoe's mother).

In the picture below, there is a sign that says, "Ring for Champagne".  When a wedding guest rang the bell, the little tiny green door there you can see to the right of the sign would open and a hand would push out a glass of champagne.  LOL.  It was a big hit at the wedding, people would get more champagne while filming the experience on their phones.

In the picture below we see Shepard, the official ring bearer, wearing his wedding tuxedo.  Shepard belongs to Kyle and Kendall.

Kevin McMenamy and Jennifer McMenamy.  Background on the kilt Kevin is wearing: Will MacDonald is the bride's father, and is from Scotland originally.  At Will's 50th birthday party 10 years ago, we all wore kilts (Kevin and myself included).  Out of respect (and a little fun) several people wore kilts at the wedding.

Pictures of the actual ceremony were discouraged, and I hope to update this page with links to the professional photographer's photos later.  So the next picture is after Kendall and Kyle were husband and wife, and we are sitting down to dinner.

Will MacDonald (father of the bride) wearing his kilt. Each Scottish "clan" has it's own patterns and colors.  Will is wearing "MacDonald Clan" colors.

The newly married couple: Kendall and Kyle.

Another picture as everyone gets settled for dinner (and a few toasts).

Kendall looking happy with her new husband Kyle.

In the photo below, Will (father of the bride) is dancing with Kendall (the bride).  I took several photos, I like this photo because it shows that in Will's sock is a dagger called a "Sgian-dubh".  It is a required part of Scottish Kilt formalwear.  A completely random other example of this sort of tradition is the "Kirpan" knife Sikhs are required to always carry.

Will and Kendall dancing.

After the wedding was all over officially, there was an "afterparty" from 11pm - 1am in the hotel bar.  Below is Kendall with her father will leaning over talking with her.

The groomsmen all changed into kilts after the wedding.  Here a few are at the after party.  From left to right: ??unknown??, ??Logan Picunko??, and Matteo Liebman.

Mostly bridesmaids hanging out together.  From left to right all in pink dresses: Abigail Rausch (facing away from camera), Fiona MacDonald, Samantha (Sam) Liebman, Molly Wright, and Emma Wright.  Facing away from the camera closest to the camera is Lia MacDonald (mother of the bride wearing blue), Kendall MacDonald (bride in white), ??unknown man??, and Lisa Mallet.

The following day Katherine and I woke up, had breakfast in our room, and drove to the airport.  The picture below I took of room service because I noticed a sterno flame can keeping the food warm while it is being delivered to our room.

That's all the photos really, the two below are just to document the hotel suite Katherine and I got.  It is room 523 and called the "Makinson Suite" at "The Lodge Torrey Pines".  Below Katherine is unpacking right after we got into the room (after waiting 7 hours hanging around the property).  Basically a "suite" is two hotel rooms where one of the two rooms has a bed in it (that's the photo below), and the other hotel room doesn't have a bed, just a couch and some furniture.  There are bathrooms in each "half" of the suite because they are obviously just repurposed hotel rooms.  There is a door inside to get back and forth between the rooms.

Below is a picture of the "living room" half of the suite.  It's just a mirror image of the other side.  There is a gas fireplace off to the right of the photo below.  The balcony configuration is a little different.  Instead of a "balcony" the living room has a bay window.

That's it, all done!  Stop reading!
